Early Father’s Day!

Father’s Day came early for the Harlin Family, but it started with a little “Harlin Luck” causing Tommy “The Hitman” as his friend call him; getting to the track too late for a time-run causing him to “Blind Dial” it for 1st round and go for it.  Even that couldn’t hold back the Mattoon Native from bringing home the Pro Win and eventually the NHRA Member Track Madness Run Off Win.  Tom drove his ‘76 Camaro to the win in Pro over his son Nick Harlin of Rossville, IL in his ‘01 Trans Am when Nick left .008 too early giving Tom the win.  Semi-Finalists were Gale Cook in his ‘69 Camaro of Sullivan, IL & Steven Conrad in his 95 Mustang of Terre Haute, IN.  Super Pro had the transplanted Hawaiian Native Carl Giovanetti in his ’34 Chevy Roadster of Oakland, IL beating Jim Falbe in his ‘68 Dart of Clinton, IL.  Carl had the starting line advantage carried that all the way to the finish line for the victory while Denny Katz in his ‘04 Dragster of Mattoon, IL was the lone Semi-Finalist.  Sportsman Final had Jim Treat of Dietrich, IL in his ‘85 Mustang taking on Derek Lyons of Ashkum, IL in his ‘95 Mustang.  Lyons had the starting line advantage, but couldn’t run his dial giving Treat the win while Katrina Shain in her ‘79 Camaro of Sullivan, IL and Nick Harlin in his ’01 Trans Am of Rossville, IL the Semi-Finalist.  In the Clinton All Out (CAO) Doug Brickey of Beason, IL started the day with a broken 67 Nova, but thanks to friend Clint Laesch he drove a borrowed 94 S-10 to the win over Adam Hughes in his 85 Cutlass of Oreana, IL.  True Street had Kevin Hunt of Decatur, IL in his 70 Dart beating Tom Wagner in his 70 Demon also of Decatur, IL.  Novice Street had Eric Honnold of Champaign, IL in his 08 Chevy 1500 beating Jim Flynn of Charleston, IL in his 91 S-10.  The day ended with the NHRA Member Track Madness Run-Off for the Special Edition Trophy & 2 Free tickets to any NHRA National Event.  The winners of S/P, Pro, Sportsman & CAO were eligible, but the S/P winner Carl Giovanetti had engine problems and couldn’t make the race giving Doug Brickey a free run to the finals.  In the other Semi-Final Tom Harlin took out Jim Treat with a stellar hole-shot and running closer to his dial-in.  In the MTM final it was Tommy “Hitman” Harlin capping off the day with the win over Doug Brickey.  Brickey gave it a valiant effort running dead on his dial-in with a borrowed Hot Rod he’d never set foot in, but Harlin was too much taking home his 2nd win of the day.
