Katz, Grover, Tilford & Propst get 1st 2018 CCD Win

The weekend started and ended with an interruption from Mother Nature, but that didn’t stop the CCD Safety Crew from drying the track and getting back to racing action. The Memorial Day weekend is always a time to reflect as the Racers & Spectators packed Coles County Dragway USA for the 6th Summit ET and 1st JT Muffler Quick Race of the year with several Racers getting their 1st win of the 2018 Season. The JT Muffler Quick Series kicked off the season with a Quick 330’ race and Series Sponsor John Tilford took home the win over Dana Kutz.  Kutz of Arcola, IL in his ‘13 Trick Chassis Dragster had the faster ET of the day with a 2.888 that was record in the 1st round, but Tilford of Mattoon, IL in his ‘06 Spitzer Dragster was the #1 qualifier.  John had the starting line advantage and never looked back taking home his 1st win of the 2018 season.  In Super Pro Denny Katz of Mattoon, IL in his ‘04 Dragster has been in the finals a few times this year, but hadn’t been able to seal the deal until this pasts weekend when he put up a deadly package beating Litchfield, IL resident David Hearn in his ‘69 Camaro.  David with the slower dial was getting the head start, but left the line too early giving Denny his 1st win of the 2018 Season and Summit ET points lead with Adam Hughes of Clinton, IL in his ‘86 442 & Jim Dronenburg of Odell, IL in his ‘70 Nova the Semi-Finalist.  In Pro Sara Cassady of Mattoon, IL in her ‘99 Camaro has been lighting up the win lights this year, but Tom Grover of Terre Haute, IN in his ‘52 Ford P/U put a stop to that; giving him his 1st CCD Win while Sara took over the points lead.  Grover had a perfect reaction time (.500) on the starting line and ran Sara down for the win while Tony Chrisagis of Arcola, IL in his ‘94 S-10 was the lone Semi-Finalist.  In a repeat from last weekend, Jesse Brant of Mattoon, IL in his ‘99 Camaro took home his 2nd consecutive win in Sportsman over Katrina Shain of Sullivan, IL in her ‘79 Camaro she calls “Stella”.  Both have been going rounds this year, but it was Jesse starting line advantage that gave him the win while Noah Probst of Effingham, IL in his ‘79 Malibu & Jim Jessup of St. Joseph, IL in his ‘99 Trans Am were the Semi-Finalist.  Tyler Propst of Maroa, IL in his ‘17 Focus is really starting to rack up the “Rookie of the Year” points as he took home his 1st win of the 2018 Season in Novice Street over Jim Flynn of Charleston, IL in his ’91 S-10.
